SERVPRO Remediates Commercial Fire Damage in A Chicago Bar
There are hundreds of bars in Chicago. They cater to millions of tourists every year. In fact, are at a greater risk of fire damage than many other types of business.
There is flammable liquid onsite, so small incidents can quickly spiral out of control. Even if nobody gets hurt, picking up the pieces can be tough. The good news is that SERVPRO has lots of experience with repairing fire damage in Chicago. We are a local company, and we can help you bring your bar back from the brink. Keep reading to find out how SERVPRO tackle this kind of restoration and why we can promise you a remarkable result.
The Furniture
Most bars in Chicago primarily contain wooden structures. Usually, the bar is wood. There may also be wooden booths or benches. Unusually, it has the potential to be both weakness and strength, depending on the severity of the damage. Obviously, if the furniture has been burned or charred, a replacement is needed.
However, structurally sound items can be thoroughly cleaned and deodorized. Wood is porous, so it absorbs smoke and soot odors easier than, say, cement or porcelain. On the other hand, it is quite resilient, so we can use ozone generators to chase odor causing particles out the bar, the seating, any wooden blinds, and hardwood flooring too.
The Soft Furnishings
It is possible to use the same deodorizing process to eliminate smoke and soot in soft furnishings too. We always deal with stains first, though, so it may be necessary to apply an absorbent compound cleaner. Anything that we can remove gets taken to our treatment facility and cleaned in a high tech washing machine.
So, seat covers, curtains, drapes, cushions, bar towels, and rugs get cleaned offsite. Immovable fibers (like carpets) get deodorized on site. We use a specialist device which generates odor killing particles. They are applied in a mist or fog because this enables them to get right into the carpet and seek out the lingering smoke particles.
The Glassware
Cleaning the glassware is a big job after a bar fire because there is so much of it. In many cases, the heat from the fire causes items to crack (sometimes shatter). It is why our technicians sort through the debris and separate salvageable items from broken ones. Fortunately, even glassware with caked on soot is relatively easy to clean.
We use a high PH (10-12) detergent or cleaning chemical and soak all items to remove stubborn stains. If there are aluminum materials in the affected area, our technicians manually clean them with non-abrasive chemicals (never bleach) and introduce fans to get clean, dry air flowing. Aluminum dust is flammable, so it is necessary to thoroughly clean around and underneath sinks and other items.
